Eglise de Salies du Salat

Architectural heritage

Salies-du-Salat is also home to a beautiful heritage that bears witness to the glory days of the little resort and spans several centuries:

The church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Pitié, which is listed as a Historic Monument, was built on the site of the former castle chapel of the Counts of Comminges. In the town, it is possible to discover a salt water fountain, or the tomb of General Jean Dominique Compans and the remains of the old keep of Salies-du-Salat.

The merchants’ hall, with its stone benches. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, with reuses from the 16th century, it now houses the municipal media library.

A Renaissance house with half-timbering, corbelling and mullioned windows. The former grain market where the administrative services of the town hall were installed. You can still see 16th century measurements carved into the stone.
