Not far from the campsite, Muret, sub-prefecture of the Haute-Garonne.

Situated at the gateway to Toulouse, the town of Muret has created a significant heritage within the commune itself.

Muret has two sites that are classified as world heritage by UNESCO.

A city of history

The town of Muret is the heir to a rich and eclectic architectural heritage. You will cross the centuries and history, while walking through the paved streets of Muret.

If you feel like taking a little tour, you should know that there is many historical monuments to visit.

The most important historical monument in the town is the Saint-Jacques de Muret church. It was built by the Counts of Comminges in the 12th century.

They settled in Muret to make it their residence. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was reworked and enlarged.

This church has an octagonal bell tower typical of Toulouse which does not go unnoticed. It was listed in 1928. The half-timbered house: a 15th century building listed in the “Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques” since 1940. St Amans Chapel: on the heights of Muret, overlooking the Garonne river bed, the Romanesque style chapel is characterized by its massive architecture. It dates from the 12th century and has a bell tower-wall in the Toulouse style.

Clément ADER, the aviation pioneer

The Clément Ader Park: built on the initiative of Vincent Auriol, then mayor of Muret in 1925, the park is a tribute to Clément Ader, a Muret pioneer in aviation and inventor of the first flying machine, the Eole. It is a testimony to aviation, whether national or international, as evidenced by the commemorative steels that adorn the park. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1999. In addition, you can visit the Clément Ader Museum and the Great Men.
